Ada banyak cara menceritakan kejadian yang telah terjadi pada masa lampau, bisa berupa cerita pengalaman, biografi seseorang, tense yang dipakai hampir sebagian besar past tense.

a. Pengertian

Recount adalah tipe bacaan yang ceritakan pengalaman (experience) atau menceritakan perjalanan hidup seseorang (biography) baik secara lisan maupun tertulis. Recount text juga dapat digunakan untuk menceritakan pengalaman atau peristiwa yang sudah terjadi pada masa lampau, seperti pengalaman berlibur, sejarah, atau sejarah hidup seseorang.

b. Tujuan komunikatif (Communicative Purpose)
Memberitakan atau menghibur orang lain (To retell events for the purpose of informing or entertaining)

c. Struktur teks / generic structure dalam recount, yaitu:

• Orientasi (pendahuluan), yaitu memberikan informasi tentang apa, siapa, di mana dan kapan;
• Events (Serangkaian peristiwa/sequence of events), yang biasanya disampaikan secara berurutan; disampaikan dalam urutan kronologis kejadiannya, seperti On the first day, … And on the next day, And the last day..pada bagian ini bisa juga berisi komentar pribadi dan/atau ungkapan penilaian (jika ada) terhadap peristiwa tersebut.
• Reorientation(pengenalan ulang/rangkuman terhadap peristiwa) yang merangkum rentetan peristiwa, kejadian atau kegiatan.

d. Language Features (Ciri Kebahasaan)
Sedangkan ciri kebahasaan yang biasa digunakan:

• nouns dan pronouns sebagai kata ganti orang, hewan atau benda yang terlibat, misalnya David, the monkey,
  We dsb.
• action verbs atau kata kerja tindakan, misalnya go, sleep, run dsb tetapi dalam bentuk lampau (Verb 2).
• past tense, misalnya We went to the zoo; She was happy dsb.
• conjunctions dan time connectives yang mengurutkan peristiwa, kejadian atau kegiatan, misalnya and, but,
  then, after that, dsb.
• adverbs dan adverb phrases untuk mengungkap tempat, waktu dan cara, misalnya yesterday, at my house, slowly dsb.
• adjectives untuk menerangkan kata benda (nouns), misalnya beautiful, funny, dsb

Dr. ABDULRACHMAN SALEH
1909-1947

Born into a family of doctors in Kampung Ketapang, Kwitang Barat, Jakarta, Abdulrachman Saleh also became a doctor. After finishing MULO, he studied at STOVIA. While still a student, he was appointed assistant at the laboratory of physiology. Graduating from STOVIA, Abdulrachman Saleh continued his work at the lab while having his own medical practice.

Abdulrachman Saleh’s role in medicine was significant. He became a lecturer in Jakarta, Surabaya, Malang, and Klaten. For his meritorious service in medicine, specifically in physiology, in 1958, the University of Indonesia bestowed him the title of Bapak lIlmu Faal (Father of Physiology).

Abdulrachman Saleh was a man of many interests. He was involved in youth organizations like Boy Scouts and Indonesia Muda. He was also a member of Aeroclub, and co founded the Verenigde Oosterse Radio Omroep (VORO), an organization of broadcasters. It was he who established the Voice of Free Indonesia, the radio station which spread the proclamation of Indonesia’s independence to the world.

My First Trip to Pari Island

Last month, I went to Pari Island for a holiday. I went there with Sarah, Andi, Eveline, and Yoko. That was my first time to travel there.

Our boat departed from Muara Angke port to the island at 8.00 AM. We arrived at Pari Island around 10.00 Am. After that, we went to our guest house that we had booked before. Fortunately, our guest house was located near to the port, so we did not have to walk so far. The first thing that we did after that was rent bicycle. It only cost IDR 20.000 per day. Then we did cycling for a while and had lunch before we decided to do snorkeling.

When we went snorkeling, the fisherman who became our guide brought us to the beach far enough from our guest house. We did snorkeling there. The water was very clear. We could see groups of tiny fishes and beautiful coral under the sea. After we did snorkeling for approximately three hours, we returned to our guest house. We ended up the first day by getting dinner and took some walks around.

On the second day, we woke up so early to watch sunrise. We did not need to go far to watch the sunrise because our guest house was so near to the beach and we could watch the sunrise there. Sunrise on the beach, what a beautiful view!

After we spent long enough time to watch the sunrise, we decided to get breakfast. There was a festival at that time. We went to the festival and had breakfast there. We ate some delicious sea foods. We felt time went so fast that day. We needed to return to our guest house because our boat that would bring us home would depart at 10.00 AM.

In summary, my first trip to Pari Island was so enjoyable. I would like to visit this place again together with my family in another chance.
